I’m always really busy. Sometimes, it can take as long as 3 weeks for me to have time to catch up with someone.
Yesterday, I had a free day, so the week before, I organised to catch up with a friend last night, but she wasn’t free, so I said I would lock in the next person I was due to catch up with, but then I decided against it.
I decided to just have a nothing day, to do what I wanted (or didn’t want), when I wanted. I blocked this day off and made it a free day to not feel guilty if I didn’t do anything productive.
But funnily enough, I ended up being VERY productive. I did two loads of laundry, a bit of cleaning, grocery shopping, meal prep AND I washed my hair and cut my nails (I honestly really hate doing the last two, like, I couldn’t tell you which of the two I hate doing more) so it definitely ended up being a big day.
On top of that, I also ended up doing a fair bit of work on my business, which wasn’t on my to-do list. But I did them because I wanted to, not because I had to; and I actually found I was more productive than if I had pencilled it in.
This is a similar practice in meditation. In a nutshell, it gets you to clear your mind and focus just on your breathing (this acts as your anchor, so if you’re aware you’ve become distracted, you pull yourself back to your breathing). This part usually goes for 10-12 minutes, and towards the end, you let go of your mind and let it do whatever it wants. And I say this to everyone, this is THE BEST part about meditation. Just releasing your mind from focus is so freeing; you don’t realise how locked down you are until you’re allowed to let it go.
And this was kind of how I felt yesterday. I let myself do whatever I wanted, and I became even more productive than I ever would have imagined. I didn’t have the pressure of needing to do things, which made me want to tackle my tasks.
So set yourself free every once in a while, it may do you good!
That being said, I am a girl of structure, so obviously this wouldn’t work for me on a daily basis, but it was nice to let go and unwind every once in a while!
